Each figure will be reviewed separately, then the set as a whole. See the scale on the sidebar to figure out what the numbers mean.
Cannonbolt
The big draw for this set, Cannonbolt UAF was never released anywhere else. I don't have his original figure for comparison, but based on internet pictures they look pretty much the same.
The figure, as always, closely resembles the cartoon.
He has four points of articulation, both shoulders and both hips. That's far below the standard 9, but Cannonbolt is anything but standard. The articulation is excellent for a figure of this body type.
Just a thought, but it would be nice if Bandai would release a Cannonbolt figure that can roll into a ball and look like on the show...
Scores:
Articulation: 5/5 - He has as much as he can handle
Appearance: 5/5 - Looks just like the cartoon
Playability: 2.5/5 - Not much to do without the ball function.
Overall: 4.2 - Very good
Gwen Anodite
Along with the DNAlien, this figure saw single release. Having not been a fan during the Alien Force figure line, I'm not sure how common it was or where it was released, but it was also in this set. And that's all that's important for now.The figure resembles the Anodites in the show and is made of a softer, transparent plastic. Gwen has 5 points of articulation - hips, shoulders, and neck. That's a little puzzling, as she could have easily been given knee articulation. Her legs have another issue, too...
Instead of moving up and down, like on Cannonbolt, her legs move in a weird side-to-side way, like Clockwork's, and Cannonbolt's arms. On legs, this is quite annoying, as it serves no playing or posing functions, effectively rendering her legs unposeable.
Gwen comes with one accessory, a blast of mana. It's cool looking, but I can't figure out how it attaches to her. They don't make it clear, and the one unmarked slot on it doesn't help. This is the closest I've gotten to figuring it out:
This isn't perfect, though, as the angle is odd and it's a bit wobbly.
Scores:
Articulation: 1.7/5 - Three functional points on a figure that could have had so much more.
Appearance: 4.6/5- A nice three-dimensional imagining of an Anodite.
Playability: 4/5 - Anodites float, so the legs aren't as much of a handicap here as one might think.
Overall: 3.4/5 - Above average
DNAlien
One of the main villains of the first two seasons of Alien Force, the DNAlien makes a mighty good toy.
The basic DNAlien. This mutant soldier has 7 points of articulation, the most in this set: shoulders, elbows, hips, and head. His knees are pre-bent, and I am once again puzzled as to why they don't move. Despite this, he is a blast to play with and pose and there is almost no way to make this figure look bad.
The DNAlien has three accessories: an open mouth, a closed mouth, and a ball of slime.
The mouths switch in a way that reminds me of the Zs'Skayr figure: pull the closed on out by a tab, then insert the tentacled alternate part. The slime fits into a hole at the center of the open mouth.
^That looked really cool in 3D.
Scores:
Articulation: 4.5/5 - Lack of knee articulation is puzzling, but doesn't hurt the figure.
Appearance: 5/5 - Looks just like the show: awesome.
Playability: 5/5 - Impossible to get into a bad pose, and different mouth modes allow it to use its powers, unlike someone in this pack...
Overall: 4.8/5 - Very good
Overall
The pack is a very good set. The numbers say, and I agree, that the DNAlien is the best figure, followed by Cannonbolt, and then Gwen. As mentioned, the exclusive Cannonbolt is the draw of this set. If you want to get a DNAlien, put in the effort to track down and buy this pack. It's worth it.
Score: 4.8/5 - Very Good
*Notes: I know this is an old set, I know that it's rare, and I know that it's expensive. But I felt like practicing reviewing for when I get my hands on Omniverse toys, so expect a review of every toy I get from here on out. Also, I don't have a camera, so I had to use my 3DS, and I'm a bad photographer. Bear with me here.
